Child-Parent Psychotherapy

I provide psychotherapy for children ages 0 – 18 years of age and their parents. I weave together my trainings, in the field of: play, trauma, attachment, infant and child development, child-parent psychotherapy, relational practice, emergent neuroscience, and somatic therapies to provide an integrative attachment/relational and somatic-based approach to my practice.

I have experience in working with:

  • Trauma, Abuse and Neglect
  • Disrupted and Insecure Attachment
  • Adoption
  • Separation and Divorce
  • Greif and Loss
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Autism and Developmental Disorders

My focus is on assessing the challenges and needs of the child, the parent and the child-parent relationship. I always begin with a 90-minute parent session where I gather historical information and hear about the parents’ concerns and hopes for their child. Secondly, I interview each parent, to help me understand the relationship with their child. Thirdly, I schedule a child-parent interaction observation session. Once all information has been gathered, I will share my views and we will make a plan on how to proceed. I will make recommendations to address the initial concerns and to enhance the child-parent relationship. Some of the approaches I may suggest are:

Watch, Wait and Wonder: Infant-led Intervention

I have completed Watch, Wait and Wonder: Infant-led Intervention developed by Elisabeth Muir, Mirek Lojkasek, and Nancy J. Cohen. Watch, Wait and Wonder is a dyadic infant/child-led approach to problems in infancy and early childhood.  The parent follows the infant/child’s lead in the play, then the parent and therapist engage in a reflective discussion of the parent observations and experience.

Child-Parent Psychotherapy

I have completed Child-Parent Psychotherapy training and rostering is in progress. Child-Parent Psychotherapy developed by Alicia Lieberman and Patricia Van Horn is an evidenced-based intervention designed to repair the behavioral and emotional problems of infants, toddlers and preschoolers whose most intimate relationships are disrupted by experiences of maltreatment, violence and trauma.

Circle of Security Parenting™

I am trained to facilitate Circle of Security Parenting™ an 8-week program based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. The focus is to become more aware of children’s needs for a safe haven, a secure base for exploration, and meeting the child’s needs through relationship.
